Sink or soap dispenser (and a hand washing sign)
Proper hand washing techniques are essential to prevent the spread of germs.
Lather hands with soap and rub them together under warm water for at least 20
seconds. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the
single most important thing we can do to keep from getting sick and spreading
illness is to wash our hands. Waterless alcohol-based cleaners can be used if
soap and water are not available. When hands are visibly soiled, however, there
is no effective substitute for soap and running water.
Toilets
Promptly repair leaking toilets and faucets. Plumbing leaks provide moisture that may attract cockroaches and also can create mold growth in the bathroom. Proper maintenance of bathroom facilities can prevent many problems down the road.
Exhaust fan
Exhausting water vapor from restrooms and showers will reduce the potential for mold growth. Also, proper ventilation of the restroom is essential to reduce odor buildup. Exhaust fans should be maintained and cleaned regularly.
Drain trap
Sewer gas problems can occur if drain traps are not properly maintained. Hydrogen sulfide gas (smells like rotten eggs) and ammonia, which are toxic and have an awful odor, can be released. Sewer gas problems can be eliminated on a short-term basis by periodically pouring water into the drain trap. If a drain is not going to be used, it should be capped.
