State Health Department Embargos Food from Tran’s Tofu in ChicagoFood sold in Asian grocery stores and restaurants in the Chicago areaSPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has embargoed all products produced at Tran’s Tofu in Chicago. During a routine inspection, IDPH found the company had been operating without hot water and therefore employees could not properly wash their hands or clean equipment. The Department also found a rodent infestation, which may have contaminated food being processed. IDPH immediately embargoed all products in the facility and the Chicago Department of Public Health has suspended the company’s license. Tran’s Tofu is cooperating in this investigation. Tran’s Tofu manufactures Fresh Tofu (DAU HU TUOI), Fried Tofu (DAU HU CHIEN), and Fresh Soybean Drink (SUA DAU NANH). The shelf life of these products is approximately two weeks. The product labels do not indicate any type of production code. These products are sold primarily to Asian (Chinese and Vietnamese) grocery stores and restaurants in the Chicago area. If you have purchased any of these products, do not consume them; thrown them out. No illnesses associated with these products have been reported to the Department. |
