State Public Health Director Recognizes Dr. Jane Kramer for Her Excellence in Pediatric Care

Ron W. Lee, MD Clinical Excellence Award

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and The Illinois Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) program honored Dr. Jane Kramer with a special pediatric care award today for her contributions to childhood care. The Ron W. Lee, M.D. – Excellence in Pediatric Care Awards are given annually by IDPH and EMSC to recognize those dedicated to pediatric emergency care and childhood injury prevention initiatives. Individuals or organizations can be nominated in one of three award categories - Lifetime Achievement, Clinical Excellence and Community Service.

“With more than 30 years of experience and clinical expertise in pediatric and emergency care, Dr. Jane Kramer has demonstrated her dedication to providing the highest level of care to pediatric patients,” said Dr. Damon T. Arnold, Illinois Department of Public Health director. “Dr. Kramer is praised by those around her for her clinical capabilities, family support, teaching abilities, training of emergency staff and development of department policies and guidelines. I would like to thank Dr. Kramer for her dedication to the quality of care of pediatric patients.”

Dr. Kramer is currently the Associate Clinical Chair Pediatrics, in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Rush University Medical Center. She has worked at various Chicago area hospitals and has taken an active role in training and mentoring residents, nurses and physicians. Dr. Kramer currently administers the pediatric residency program. In addition, she has served on several regional and statewide pediatric committees and has been involved in numerous professional societies, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, Academic Pediatric Association, American College of Emergency Physicians and the Association of Pediatric Program Directors.

“Dr. Kramer has instituted polices for the proper care and assessment of the pediatric patient in the emergency department,” said Jeffrey Doll, BSN, RN, CEN. “Her leadership and knowledge have helped the staff become more comfortable and proficient in pediatric emergency care.”

“She consistently provides excellent care with compassion to all patients and their families. She is an advocate for children and has been involved in activities that promote excellence in pediatric care,” said Norine Levison, RN, BSN, CEN. “I was fortunate to know Dr. Ron W. Lee. Dr. Jane Kramer demonstrates a commitment to the care of pediatric patients that truly honors Dr. Ron W. Lee’s legacy.”

The Ron W. Lee, M.D. Excellence in Pediatric Care awards are presented each May. Dr. Lee was the director of emergency medicine at Loyola University Medical Center and was instrumental in establishing and fostering the EMSC program in Illinois. He passed away in 1998.

The Illinois EMSC program is a collaborative effort of the Illinois Department of Public Health and Loyola University Medical Center. It was established in 1994 to ensure the emergency medical care needs of children are adequately addressed.
