First probable H1N1 Flu Cases Outside Chicago and Collar CountiesSPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Officials with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) are reporting the first probable cases of H1N1 flu (swine flu) outside Chicago and the collar counties. Friday, tests confirmed one positive H1N1 flu case in Sangamon County and one in Winnebago County. To date, IDPH is reporting 88 probable and confirmed cases of H1N1 flu (swine flu) in Illinois. “We anticipated seeing cases of the H1N1 flu virus across Illinois and we expect to see more. However, there is no need to be alarmed,” said Dr. Damon T. Arnold, Illinois Department of Public Health Director. “We have prepositioned antiviral medications and medical supplies at hospitals and local health departments across the state so if and when they are needed, they will be readily available.” The IDPH again reminds people to take precautions to stay healthy by following the three C’s – Clean – properly wash your hands frequently, Cover – cover your cough and sneeze, Contain – contain your germs by staying home if you are sick.
