State public health director stresses importance of dental care for all during visit to new dental clinic
Tazewell County Health Department expands dental services
NORTH PEKIN, Ill. – Dr. Eric E. Whitaker today visited the new Tazewell County Health Department dental clinic, which has added another dentist, a hygienist, dental assistants and safe as well as expanded services to include adult patients. The Tazewell County Health Department operates the Family Dental Center and opened for business at its new location in North Pekin on August 22.
"Poor oral health has been linked to numerous illnesses and conditions such as diabetes, respiratory illness and cardiovascular disease. Despite these links, there are still many Illinoisans who do not receive oral health care because they can't afford it or the lack of access to
dental services," said Dr. Whitaker. "I'm pleased to be here at the new and expanded Family Dental Center that will help more people afford dental care in a convenient location."
The Family Dental Center accepts Medicaid patients, including children enrolled in ALL KIDS, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich's program which makes comprehensive health insurance available to all uninsured children, including doctor visits, hospital stays, prescription drugs, vision care, dental care, as well as medical devices like eyeglasses and asthma inhalers.
The Family Dental Center does not discriminate in the provision of services to an individual because the individual is unable to pay or based upon the individual's race, color, sex, national origin, disability, or religion.
"The Tazewell County Health Department receives calls on a routine basis, some from as far away as Champaign and Galesburg, from people who have no place to receive dental care," said Amy Tippey, Tazewell County Health Department Administrator. "Our expansion of services
allows us to fill a gap for dental services not met in the past."
The Family Dental Center offers children ages three and above, who live in Tazewell County, check-ups and emergency care. Children may receive fillings or have infected teeth removed.
Starting this past January, Tazewell County residents over the age of 21 can receive check-ups and emergency care by appointment.
The Family Dental Center provides oral exams, teeth cleaning, fillings, sealants, simple extractions, X-rays, topical fluoride, referrals, brushing and flossing instruction, education and dentures.
The Family Dental Center is open Monday through Friday. Clients should call the office at (309) 382-2229 for an appointment.
